Vizio HD TV getting Digital Channels?

September 16th, 2012 by admin Leave a reply »

Hello, Currently i have to use a Digital Cable Box to get channels 100 threw 990. The channels that are on 900 – 990 are all music channels..

When i did a scan with the TV, NOT using a box, and it finds all the channels 1-76 then it goes 78.1 78.2 78.3 and so on, And those 78 channels are those music channels mentioned above..

So my question is, How do i get the TV to receive the OTHER digital channels so i do not have to pay the extra 10.00 for the EXTRA cable box.. I already pay for the programming, So theres no need for a second Box. (First box is in my living room)

I have this TV http://www.walmart.com/ip/Vizio-37-LCD-TV/10993795 Someone mentioned a Cable Card, I dono if this one has that or not.. Let me know what to do..

What you’re seeing is the normal operation of the QAM tuner in your TV. The cable company sends its digital channels in QAM format. Those few that are unencrypted are detectable by your set. That includes two classes of channels: (1) your familiar local broadcast stations and a few cable channels that will always be easy to find on fixed channel numbers, i. e. 30. 1, 35. 2, etc.

And (2), the second group is a small number of cable-only channels that the company has not yet encrypted. In your case, that currently includes the music channels. For now, you can get them by doing a channel scan and finding where they are. But the problem is that the cable company moves those channel assignments around very frequently. You cannot count on any such channels being in the same place on any given day. And ultimately, they’ll be gone when the company gets around to encrypting them.

What they’re doing is forcing you to get a digital box and digital subscription. In time, the only channels you’ll be able to watch via your QAM tuner will be those few that the government forces them to leave in the clear.
